Swirly

Finally, SwirlyMMS v0.2 has been released!

iPhonePosted by Tommy Svensson 2008-01-02 00:02:07
We know some of you have waited a long time on this release... Finally, it is here :-) Damn those last 10% that takes 90% of the time...

So, in this v0.2 release we have added support for a MMS-specific APN, which allows many more of you to send MMSs! Also, a few bugs have been corrected (and maybe a few added ;-)), handling of the responses from the network has been improved, we have added image resize options and enabled erasure of the sent history.

This second release is still pretty rough and can only send MMSs. But we continue to develop it further, making the GUI a bit more polished and we will add the capability to receive MMSs. In fact, we have already done enough experimentation to say that we hopefully can release a v0.3 with receiving capabilities within 3-4 weeks. For whatever our time estimations are worth...

The release has been made available to a trusted community source repository and as soon it has been put up there you will find it in your iPhone's Installer application.

More information and instructions will be put up on http://www.swirlyspace.com

Have fun!

Tommy & Mats

y is it when i attempt to send a mms it says unable to resize picture i have it on low....?

Is there any way to select pictures from your photo albums, instead of the ones in the camera roll. I can only send pictures that I have been stored after taking the picture from the iphone.

I know a forum exists on modmyifone.com but it's terribly slow, and the comments here work but for threaded conversations and such I offer up a forum if you want to use it .. www dot oneduality dot com/forum there is a dedicated swirly mms forum there!

Sortilege: Sorry for my delayed response, been swamped with my own work lately and lost track of this project :)

My iPhone for t-mobile, I'm assuming you mean my edge settings? Under Settings->General->Network->Edge I only have an APN entered, no username and password.. That APN is wap.voicestream.com

You also need to make sure you have MMS set up with t-mobile and you probably need a data plan as well, I have the total internet package with unlimited text and picture messaging..

Tommy,
many thanks for all your effort. I've tried to send an MMS in Germany using o2. I've used a photo taken with the on board camera and configured to "Minimum" image size. Unfortunately I didn't succeed. The activity logo continued circling for more than 15 minutes before I've stopped the application. I did not receive any error message. I've used settings for o2 which I think are correct: MMSC 10.81.0.7:8080; Proxy: 82.113.100.5:8080; APN: internet. Username and Pwd are empty.
Do you have any idea?
/Rainer

Thank you for your response tommy. If you look at the setting that are posted here by another user though there are none that require me to even use HTTP or http.

Could you please check your MMS-settings?
Have you entered Http instead of http? If so, make sure it is http!
This will be fixed in next version...

I am on t-mobile (usa) and my question is for lonnie who posted the settings. I entered all the settings in the MMS application, but what settings do you enter in the settings for the phone. When i try to send it tells me "failed to send MMS, unsupported protocol"

hi tommy,

i just figured out why sometime i can send mms out while sometimes not.
it's all about the title's language.

that is, if the MMS's title is in chinese, then sending will fail; if in english, sending always succeeds.

btw, i'm in beijing, china, and the SwirlyMMS apn is cmwap, like i mentioned before.

hope in the v0.3 release, this will be fixed.

regards,

Cui

hey again :)

How do i remove the whole app if i need to do a clean installation?

First uninstall with installer, then remove some dir maybe? :)

thnx!

I reinstalled SwirlyMMS 0.2 and put the 050 at the end of the Proxy IP and everything seems to be working normally. Maybe it had something to do with not removing MMS 0.1 before installing 0.2. Switching between Edge and WiFi is back to good now though. I will try to donate soon, please keep up the good work this is an app that every iPhone needs.

Also, when using XLaunch, SwirlyMMS comes up as "Downloader"

Posted by Xander 2008-01-03 05:01:10

I am having a problem with SwirlyMMS 0.2 where my phone will drop the connection to TMobile USA while connected to WiFi. This only started after successfully sending a message using SwirlyMMS. Once I removed the app my iPhone functioned normally. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks to lonnie for the successful settings.

Hi, why we need to have edge activated (I got this message : Failed to send MMS, MMS cannot be sent right now since EDGE is not available!) ? how to send using GPRS if we are not in a EDGE area network.

Thanks

Posted by franz 2008-01-02 16:04:36

Thnx Tommy!

Will try that, i guess i can just remove them with iphoneBrowser also (or what its called?) :)

Actually it does not crash totally, but the saving process takes a looooong time (should it be qucik or slow?), and the history is not deleted. Might been a prob when updating from 0.1?

Posted by dirk 2008-01-02 13:52:33

thanx a lot, it is working pretty well. i am using eplus in germany. so the additional configuration for the apn was very welcome.

Posted by tommy 2008-01-02 13:51:57

Franz,
that was bad news :-( But thank you for reporting the problem!

Do you know how to work with a terminal on the iphon or connect to it from your desktop computer via ssh? If so, you could try to delete the settings and send history manually by issuing the following commands:

rm /var/root/Library/MMSApp/preferences.dat
rm /var/root/Library/MMSApp/sent.dat

Then restart SwirlyMMS and reconfigure your MMS Settings!

Hope it helps!

/Tommy

mav,
in addition to "APN: heyahmms" have you entered the username and password?
USR: heyah
PWD: heyah

If you have entered information with Http://whatever.com, strip off the Http:// part and give it another try!

>I'm getting a "failed to send the network reported service denied" message
Are you sure you have enabled the MMS service with your Service plan? Your Service provider can answer that if you are unsure.

Posted by mav 2008-01-02 09:14:43

Hello from Poland and thanks for Your great program!

However, I think there is a bug in the MMS-specific APN settings. In my network, the APN is: "heyahmms". SwirlyMMS fails instantly (Failed to send MMS, please check your APN settings) when this type of APN (that isn't a valid url?) is entered. I've tried something diffrent that is an URL, it tries to send it, but it fails of course. Could you please repair this?

Thanks a lot, best regards,
mav.

No problem, I tried the settings as they were posted and it failed .. I was initially bummed out thinking all that waiting was for nothing, but I checked around on forums and found people discussing settings for some pda and came accross the slightly different values.. worked! it was a happy moment, I may have even cried a little :) .. jk .. excellent work

Posted by tommy 2008-01-02 01:53:28

Great news lonnie!! I know that many t-mob-us users have been disappointed for not being able to use this app - but now they can :-)

And thanks for sharing the settings! I just updated my settings page.
