MMS v0.1 is here!

iPhonePosted by Tommy Svensson 2007-12-05 23:07:15
Tada! We are ready to release our native MMS application for the iPhone! Note, this is a v0.1 release that is not feature complete! Specifically, it is NOT possible to receive MMSs yet.

Before you can send any MMSs you must configure your mmsc server and maybe a proxy server in the MMS's Settings panel. The settings are available from your operator. For example, my configuration settings are:
mmsc: mmsc.tele2.se
proxy: 130.244.202.30:8080
but you must use your operator's settings.

Note, to send MMSs you must be communicating over EDGE/GPRS. In other words, if you are using WiFi you must disable that service.

As stated before, this first release is pretty rough and can only send MMSs. But we will develop it further, making the GUI a bit more polished and add the capability to receive MMSs.

We will make this release available via Installer but you can download the files now from here. Unzip, copy files to /Applications/MMS.app/ and chmod +x mms.

Have fun!

Tommy & Mats

Does anybody know the MMSC and proxy settings for T-Mobile? I feel I've tried everything!

Yeah my donation will come but it is certainly pending on at very least being able to send via tmobile US .. but I'd make a hefty donation if the receiving also worked in the next version.. though I imagine in order to receive, it will have to be running in the background some how, or you'll have to launch the app every time you want to check.

The settings for Telia S:
mmsc: mmss
proxy: 193.209.134.132:8080
are working well on my IPhone (1.1.1) , even if the Wifi is on!
The problem are that the "send" animation don´t end - it just runs .. but the mms are sent whitout problem.

Thanks, got the app to work but now when try to send a message after about a minute into progress it gives an error saying "". The mms server of my service provider requires a password and maybe thats where the problem is but in the settings of your app there isn't an option for username password.

Ok, now you must make the mms executable.
You do that by issuing the command "chmod +x mms" from the commandline on your iPhone.
To issue such commands you need to have a terminal application on the iPhone. I use VT-100 myself, which is available on Installer.

Thanks again but installation is not the problem. I already installed it and MMS.app folder is their in the application folder and I can see MMS icon in the menu of iPhone but when I select the application starts and shows "loading" stays there for about a minute and then exits to the menu again.

Since the application is not on an offical Installer source yet you must transfer the application to your iPhone manually.
Depending on your platform there are several ways of doing that. I use WinSCP. Then you must change permissions of mms to executable.
Please, be patient till we have it released on Installer, or use or various FAQs on how to manually install applications on the iPhone!
Good luck!

Hi Sigge, thanks for the feedback!

Yes, we resize the pictures. It seems very strange that the reciever got a blank image. We have not noticed any problems with the resizing before! However, we will of course take a second look at that function.

Awsome work!

I manged to send with Swedish Telia
mmsc: mmss
proxy: 193.209.134.132:8080

However, the receiver got only a blank image. The message showed a size of 13kb.

Do you resize the picture in anyway?

"chmod +x mms" is an instruction for you to change the permissions of the mms application to executable after having copied it to the iPhone.

installed the app and have the icon on iphone for mms but even after disabling wifi the app loads but just shows "loading" and then quits to the menu again. edge is set on cell. What is chmod +x mms mentioned here?

I know this is a new just a begining, but a place where you can type a message along with your picture would be great :) Awesome work guys, keep it up.
