Swirly

v1.0 is in the pipe...

iPhonePosted by Tommy Svensson 2008-04-09 17:59:35
Hi all Swirly users!

Since we get several emails asking the same thing we will answer you all here. And the answer is yes, we are now in the phase of putting together the big 1.0-release, which delivers loads of new and improved features!

With this release, we will bring you an easy-to-use user-interface, inspired by the mail application, which allows you to navigate through your received and sent multi-media messages.

Speaking of multi-media, in this release you will not be limited to send and receive images - you will be able to send and receive images, text, audio and video.

You will be able to send and receive messages containing multiple multi-media parts. For example you can send an image together with a long text in the same message.

We will provide a built-in media viewer so that you can easily view your messages from within SwirlyMMS.

You can easily reply to, or forward the message and you will be able to select multiple recipients.

You will be able to save a multi-media item to a file of your choice.

To send a photo, you will be able to select it, not only from your camera roll but also from your synched photo library or use the built-in file browser to pick any file.

Also, you will be able to take a photo with the camera from within SwirlyMMS and send it right away.

To help you configure the application with the MMS settings, we have developed a package which handles settings delivered over-the-air!

So, you may think that all this sounds pretty good, but of course you still wonder: when will a version that includes all these features be released? And the answer on that is: hopefully within, hmmm... maybe three-four weeks.

/Tommy&Mats

PS.
We will publish a couple of screenshots really soon. Stay tuned!

PS2.
We have plans on adding really cool and useful features in the next forthcoming releases :-)

Okay guys.. no mms in the new 2.0! You can release your new version now! =)

Posted by Kollade 2008-06-09 15:44:50

I guess we will hear something from the Swirly guys tomorrow after the keynote! =)

Posted by A.T 2008-06-06 15:51:17

I hope they get rid of the "swirly" and jus call it "MMS". They won't give all this in a app for free, will they? I just hope they don't charge much for it in AppStore, if it comes there, will it?? Am buying as long as its called "MMS" and no swirly start up screen. :-) thanks

Posted by Koll 2008-06-05 17:28:20

On Monday Jun-9 when old Steve has speaked then we will know I think...

Give us just a sign please!

Posted by TheRaider 2008-05-30 16:26:27

The real problem is the lack of information. Does anyone know the authors? If they cant continue with the development, cant they offer the code?

Posted by Fabian Cortez 2008-05-30 00:52:42

P.S.: The comment system is effing up again. :\

Posted by Fabian Cortez 2008-05-30 00:52:02

I agree that a simple "MMS" would suffice. Much like MobileChat operates. The only place the name of the app is shown is in the settings pane. Having the app, sans splash screen, shown as "MMS" makes it very OEM (which I like). But at the end of the day, it is up to Mats and Tommy. ;)

Posted by Luke 2008-05-29 22:03:19

Theyre better be a big surprise in AppStore and plzzzzzz get rid of the "swirly" in the name. Whats wrong with calling it jus "MMS", and I will be willing to pay, :-)

Posted by AtX 2008-05-29 13:27:25

Give us just a sign please! Maybe some screen shots!?

Posted by brandon 2008-05-29 06:23:03

Did you guys die or something? I love swirlymms but I'm pretty sure 4 weeks happened a while ago...

I'm very anxiously awating the new version, not needing 2 additional apps to check my images will be great (3 if you want to see the text too).

Please just let us know what's going on...

Posted by Ben 2008-05-27 16:46:32

Why do they do it for free? Why don't they charge for the app? I mean if i took the time to develop an app i would charge for it, only if i knew how to develop though.

Posted by wy 2008-05-27 12:54:04

thx!and when will we can get the wonderful app?

Posted by Ben 2008-05-27 00:08:34

Ye but it wouldnt harm them jus giving a post since it has been ages.

Posted by lonnie 2008-05-26 07:40:49

The forum has no more communication about 1.0 than here, so no need to be rude .. but keep in mind they have lives also .. they don't eat and breathe mms

Posted by moi 2008-05-26 01:39:02

Errrr Luke, theyre not replying in the forums either. We're not that stupid that we woudn't check their aswell. Maybe they're jus going to surprise everyone with something big in it. Hmmmmm maybe............ Like someone said before, hope they get rid of the loading screen and change the name to just MMS. I also will be willing to pay.

Posted by Chris 2008-05-26 01:31:24

Why do you call it SwirlyMMS why cant you just call it MMS? I'd pay for it if you rename it to just MMS and get rid of the swirlymms loading screen.(the spiral thing). And if you can tell us if your going to release it through Appstore and for how much?

Posted by Luke 2008-05-26 01:28:03

You morons. They're not ignoring anyone, they're using the forum on SwirlySpace. So get off your asses, click a couple of buttons and read the bloody forums.

Posted by AtX 2008-05-25 21:05:27

The ignoring thing sucks... I Hope someone fix an other mms app soon!

Posted by me 2008-05-25 20:46:46

Even if they do release it to appstore, with this shitty way of treating their "crowd" i wont give a DIME for it.

You know guys, you have made a great app, filled a big hole apple left, but you fucked it all up when you started ignoring people.

Posted by Leo 2008-05-25 20:35:29

Come on! I can't wait anymore!!!

Posted by Snap 2008-05-23 22:51:00

Plzzzzzz tell us wen u r gonna release v1.0. Will it come through App Store. I will be willing to pay. :-)

I think they are waiting for iPhone firmware 2.0

Posted by Wimpy 2008-05-21 13:50:44

Boys we all wait for release 1.0. Can you guys say anything more about the release date? We donate for sure too.

Posted by Sire 2008-05-21 08:29:27

I surely will donate if 1.0 will be released!

Posted by Andy 2008-05-20 13:44:30

I'm looking straight forward to the (hopefully) coming 1.0 version. If it supports everything you announced, I'm sure I'll donate.

Posted by Jim 2008-05-16 03:13:27

Perhaps good old Tommy and Mat pulled the old Jew verbage in calling out the weeks. 4 weeks of weeks would be 28 weeks!

Posted by Hmmm.. 2008-05-15 21:24:02

maybe they just did it to have u all on lol. u neva know there might already be an mms app developed by someone else in AppStore wen it comes

Posted by khriz 2008-05-14 22:51:32

holy sheeeet im stoked. i need to figure out how to make a cool iphone app.

Posted by vita 2008-05-14 20:43:38

Hi Tommy and Mats! Please release the final 1.0.. please.. *puppyeyes... I know You have a lot of other things to do in your lives.. other than developing an mmstool for some  iphoneusers like me.. but please.. please, finally release this gadget. thank you so much in advance

Posted by Alex 2008-05-14 11:48:48

Yes it's time to hurry up with the beta before iPhone 2.0 comes out.
Maybe there already is MMS-support in the 2.0..?

Posted by naryan 2008-05-12 20:19:38

geez taking FOREVER!!!

Posted by lonnie 2008-05-10 21:09:47

Fabian - you're totally right, everyone should just shush and refresh their browsers every 5 minutes :)

Posted by Fabian Cortez 2008-05-09 23:35:33

lol, this is just like the 0.3 update post.

Posted by franky 2008-05-09 14:00:31

when they ask for donations and have been getting them then suddenly there is some level of obligation, it's not hard to at least give some kind of one line status update. It's not that I don't appreciate the work, I do. But when you see people have been giving money over and getting ignored when they ask if there is an updated ETA that's frustrating.

Posted by Mike 2008-05-09 13:54:59

Yes! GREAT work! Keep it up...Cannot wait for 1.0!

Posted by stan 2008-05-09 13:24:40

Stop bitching. If you want it so bad, make an application of your own. These guys has no obligations ti no one. Keep up the good work, looking forward to 1.0 !

Posted by franky 2008-05-09 12:24:16

the thing that's really upsetting is they are just down right ignoring these questions.

Posted by Fabian Cortez 2008-05-07 00:37:24

Tomorrow please. QQ

Posted by lonnie 2008-05-06 19:16:45

Too much brain power being used incorrectly, and can you believe I'm a developer?

Tomorrow is 4 weeks.. 30th was 3 weeks.. and now I shut up and pledge a larger donation for my mistake ;) .. but to be fair Hmm, we were both wrong.

Posted by lonnie 2008-05-06 19:12:25

"Hmmm" you tricked me by making me think about it in terms of months, which varies .. lol I was right in the first place..

The announcement said 3-4 weeks, weeks don't vary .. 4 weeks from Wednesday April 9th (the date the post was made) would be Wednesday April 30th ... it's now May 6th, so it's definitely nearly a week late as I said.

:) not that it really matters too much

Posted by lonnie 2008-05-06 19:04:41

Four weeks does not equal one month.. since months vary between 28, 30 and 31 days in length.. you need to go by calendar months.. and of course I'm only nitpicking because you're correct, the high end ETA was 4 weeks which hits in 3 days .. for some reason I was thinking May 4th instead of May 9th... ohwell! 3 more days, god I hope not :)

Stan - I assure you the project isn't dead, we're just an impatient lot .. Matt and Tommy are very good at what they do, they just need a PR guy to keep us at bay .. ;) ..

Posted by Stan 2008-05-06 16:07:49

Thinking about making a small donation, but I need to know the project is not dead first..

Posted by Hmmm 2008-05-06 08:14:23

A week past the original ETA? Four weeks = One Month = 3 more days...

Posted by lonnie 2008-05-06 00:39:32

An updated timeline would be nice.. if it's going to be another week, or month.. that's fine, but silence is a killer.. especially when it's already nearly a week past the original ETA, people are no doubt expecting it any second.. :)

Posted by Armin 2008-05-05 07:01:27

Can you please give us an approximate date when the V1.0 would be released please, We just can't wait for it!!

Thanks for all your hard work.

Posted by David 2008-05-03 20:46:12

Väldigt uppskattande att du jobbar frenetiskt med detta projekt. v1.0 låter nästan för bra för att vara sant. Hoppas på att den släpps snart! Grymt jobb!

Posted by franky 2008-05-02 18:45:31

it almost seems like the project just died!!

Posted by franky 2008-05-02 18:43:54

missed the three week mark, missed the four week mark.. please can we have something to play with over the weekend? make it 1.0 rc 1 if you got to! is it with the beta testers yet? i notice every question about an ETA is now being flatly ignored. haha

Posted by Cobra 2008-04-30 10:00:04

Kom Nu kom nu kom nu kom nu hehehe Jeg vil være beta tester hvis den er klar ... 100000 tak for jeres kanon arbejde :-)

That's great new; I sort of hope they don't launch native MMS too soon on the iPhone --- after all the work that you have put into this.  Sending off a donation today (finally got it working with AT&T  -- see the thread on modmyifone ---

I LOVE SWIRLY MMS!!!

Posted by Monica 2008-04-11 00:54:33

This is awsome news you guys made my day!!!

Posted by spyder 2008-04-10 02:22:43

That sounds awesome. How do plan to use the OTA actviation? Do you plan on using the one the carrier sends out when you first actviate? Or are you planning on sending the OTA to the phone? Usually the OTA provisions the MNC, voicemail number and the SMSC settings. It usually doesn't do settings for MMS. If it did I'm not sure if you could use it.

Posted by markyj 2008-04-10 01:12:15
