AT&T: SWIRLYMMS WORKS ON IPHONE ---FINALLY---

Postby romeoz on 10 Nov 2008, 19:29

CAN YOU LOCK THIS THREAD AND MAKE IT A STICKY SO THERE IS NO SEARCHING FOR THE CORRECT WAY TO GET SWIRLYMMS TO WORK!!! THANKS

I am just like everyone else on here....getting frusturated with all these different ways and none working. However, this one DID THE TRICK!!! I called AT&T and had them enable WAP Push on my Iphone. After they did that I just started sending and receiving MMS messages with my normal Iphone data plan. So the secret to making swirlyMMS work is to have AT&T Enable WAP Push on your account. The rep told me she had to add it in two different places when I was on the phone to her. It took me 3 different people to finally get it working becuase the other reps didnt know what WAP was for. When they asked me why I needed it I just said I was trying to log onto email through an exchange server(government email or personal email). Virtual Voicemail works perfect, txt works, MMS works, Internet works, phone calls work, Ipod works, Camera works, video camera works, pretty much it all works ...everything tested about 2 minutes before I posted this.

So I have the following on my Iphone now.
Unlimited minutes -99.99
Iphone Data Plan (with 1500 txt) 30.00
WAP Push ENABLED

HERE ARE MY SETTINGS:
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com:80

APN :
username:
password:

Image size =Maximum
useragent: IPhone

Hope this helps everyone

I would assume since you are sending through WAP it would go as a data charge through the data plan...so no charage extra....

If you get this working, MMS is counted with your SMS totals.

With the pricing on Unlimited Data and 1500 Text, I am assuming you have a 2G iPhone, meaning when it was first provisioned it may have had MMS enabled already, that is why you just had to get WAP Push enabled.

Hence, people with the 3G iPhone, when they got it provisioned, MMS was not enabled and AT&T had a block and/or policy to not enable MMS. Therefore, you either have to have a iPhone provisioned with MMS enabled or know a Tech personally to get that enabled.

Anyone buy this reasoning?

I understand this, but provisioning is different. Basically, think of it like this.

Three things an MMS can do.

1. It gets delivered to the phone as is.
2. It get delivered to the phone as a TEXT message with a link viewmymessage.com
3. It gets sent to the account, but gets blackholed because the phone can not process it.

I am assuming #3 is happening with the earliest iPhones, #2 is happening with newer iPhones, #1 happens to normal phones with MMS capability, or with SWIRLY MMS working (MMS and WAP Push enabled)

This is essentially what I did, I just told them I swap my sim into another phone when I'm at work so I can receive MMS and told them "people at the office" said I need WAP Push and MMS enabled on my account. Never had a problem since. :)

I'm so tired of talking to ATT and Apple Technical support. Nothing works! This isnt meant to work. I used to get them in my inbox of swirly and I couldnt download them. I called and had them do something else, I think enable MMS and the guy said he would have to remove my iPhone data plan. I said screw it and said go ahead. I could retrieve them at that point. Who has a real solution? I'm on the phone now telling them to enable WAP push and they said you can turn that on/off on the phone which is true. It's under mail settings I think.

As far as enabling MMS, they wont do it if you have the iPhone data plan. For those of you who claim you have it working, make a youtube video and let me see. This shit is crazy. Why the hell is this so difficult. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That guy gQ has people working for a while apparently but then he got shut down. I just dont think that we can do this. Suggestions/Solutions?
