MMS Vodafone italy not working

Hi There,

just bought the SwirlyMMS2 license because I was not able to send out MMS from China in the standard way, so I thought it was a limit of the iphone imposed by my carrier Vodafone Italy.

Anyway, everything installed correctly even the activation has gone well but I can't still send MMS.
Here the Swirly settings for Vodafone IT shich i entered:
APN: mms.vodafone.it
Proxy: 10.128.224.10
MMSC: mms.vodafone.it/servlets/mms

As I said at now I'm in China and I already tried all (two) providers available (China Mobile and CHN-Unicom) but no chance.

Carrier: Vodafone IT 5 (as shown under Settings/Info)
OS Version: 3.0 (7A341)

At this point I have a doubt...
Must I activate the roaming always to send MMS when I'm abroad? I remember that with my old sonyericsson K750 I was able to send MMS from China even if the roaming option was off. If I'm not wrong it should have sent them via gprs.

Any suggestion?

Hello. Yes in generell you need roaming to be enabled.

If you are using SwirlyNet AND have access to Wifi AND the receiver is also using SwirlyNet then you can send an MMS to that person without roaming since wifi will then be used.

Just a thing to make everything clearer...
So, iphone can't send data via gprs?
MMS are sent out in a different way and there are no chance to send them out as I done before (via gprs) with my sonyericsson?

Well, MMS is always going over gprs but is normally using a separate APN than what you use for data (surfing, email etc). As you wrote below you use "mms.vodafone.it" as the MMS APN and that is obviously a separate MMS APN. Independent on if you have a separate MMS APN or can use the normal data APN to send and receive MMS you always need to enable roaming when you are outside your home country.

What you explained is clear, anyway I'm sure that before (on sonyericsson with same carrier) I never turned on the roaming to send MMS when I was abroad (in China also), for sure.

unless the mobile has enabled the roaming automatically without me noticing.
