I registered for this forum simply to reply to this post. I must say that what I've read in the replies to this particular post are far and away the most ludicrous, childish, narrow minded, living under a rock, me me me thoughts any collection of human beings have ever produced.
This is an open letter to everyone complaining about having to upgrade to v. 2:
Let's get a few things straight:
1. When you bought an iPhone (up until June 19th, 2009) you knew damn well that there was ZERO support for MMS out of the box.
- So what exactly are you complaining about? You should be happy you can even have MMS on the phone, paid for or not.
2. You were handed, for free, ALL of the tools you need to even be permitted to install an app like Swirly. (ie. no Dev Team, no Swirly)
- If the Dev Team started charging $6 for each model and OS they had to jailbreak, would you say a word? Be happy with what you've already been given!!!
3. You are all living, breathing human beings blessed with the ability to think, evaluate, and act - and then, the kicker, actually realize what you're doing... This is basically the only thing that makes us different from every other animal on the planet.
- So act like one... I've seen this over and over an over... You had a choice, that you should have used that glob of goo between your ears to THINK about; from there you should have EVALUATED your options and then you should have ACTED. Through all of this you should understand and REALIZE what the consequences of your actions are going to be. Whether it's updating to OS 3.0 or what I discuss in point 5.
4. Two guys, wanting to add something cool to the iPhone platform decide to invest their time, and I'm sure plenty of money to create this application. They write one version, decide to upgrade it and release another version. Now, for the 3rd time they're working on another version (not to mention all of the tiny fixes they throw in along the way).
- Until you decide to make a competitor for this app, there is nothing you're going to be able to do about it. I believe someone mentioned something about how "monopolistic" this all is. To that I say - NO SHIT?
5. You expect that because you opted to be cheap (and let's be honest here - anyone who bought v.1 while v.2 was out simply did so because they're cheap. And by cheap I mean, "I can save $4 fucking dollars buying a version nearly 2 years old" cheap.) that you should now be taken care of.
- So really this can be boiled down to a lesson in not being cheap... When you're cheap, you opt for something far inferior to it's more costly competition (not always true, but usually it is). And what usually happens? That cheap piece of crap breaks long before you intended it to and you have to go out an buy another, eventually spending more money than if you'd just been a little less cheap in the beginning.
So yeah, you were cheap, you opted for the $8 version over the $12 version (knowing damn well that if you ever did upgrade your total cost would be more than if you just dropped the lousy $12 in the first place) and now you're complaining that you're "not being taken care of."
And for those of you who will say "it's not about the money" or "I just didn't need the extra features" - FUCK YOU! You're so clearly lying it's pretty silly... Remember you were just too damn cheap to drop 12 fucking dollars the first time around, so why do you expect anyone to believe that it has anything more to do with than continued cheapness?
Grow up... Pay $6 to these guys and live on. And if you're really wrestling with $6 - what on earth are you doing owning and operating one of the most expensive phones on the market? Sounds like daddy remembered to pick up the new boat, but forgot how to pay for the kids dinner...
