AT&T, Yea...This may be what we NEEDED for it to work..

Here goes the different settings for MMSC, Proxy and APN that have been proven usable.

hey mark i believe the 403 error means you dont have mms enabled. I get unexpected http response when i try to fetch. that i believe my wap was disabled. i still receive them just cant fetch.

I'm still getting 403 errors for send and receive myself (though i get the MMS, i cant' retrieve it).. (Just started getting error 500s now)

I have the _regular_ unlimited messaging plan (not the iphone one) and the iphone data plan..

I hit AT&T up twice today, once to have MMS turned on and WAP push turned on.. the 2nd call to confirm the first one did their job.. so all that is turned on.. using swirly in demo mode, and using the settings:

MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
for proxy, tried both: 66.209.11.32 and wireless.cingular.com
for APN tried blank and wap.cingular
for useragent tried Nokia_N95, BJ2 and iPhone...

after hours(72) of frustration, finally worked for me

Postby vothrock on 19 Dec 2008, 17:09

What i did to make it work. finally.
I have 2g iphone. 8 gig. pwnage jailbreak tool. running OS. 2.2 (5G77)
the following settings were used:

MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
PROXY: wireless.cingular.com:80
APN: wap.cingular
USERNAME: [email protected]
PASSWORD: CINGULAR1
Image size: Medium
User Agent: iPhone (initially used samsung_BJ2(AT&T, which did work, but switched to iPhone and still works)

but initially did not work as got fetch error 403.
had a green M, and inbox had a new message but could not view as constantly kept getting fetch errors.
tried every combination of settings on the forums. still errors. read one particular post to stick the iphone sim card into a another phone capable of web browsing. wife's Razr. did just that and opened media net. got connection failures. but showed misc bytes transfered.
put iphone sim card back into iphone. tried again. fetch error still. last night. this morning checked a final time. download bar showed up (fetching data). success.

I wasn't going to buy this app. as it didn't work for me for 3 days. finally after going through the forum found the sim card switch method. now it works, and i will purchase. now that its working for me...a great app. At&t and apple still suck for putting limitations.

I took the phoning tech support route with my 3g and it worked like a charm..

See this link for further details:

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1120&p=5880#p5880

There are notes on file size limits for sending videos, as well (roughly 600KB, with iphonevideorecorder that amounts to about 12 seconds with lowest qual. setting on mp4, unless someone knows of a better video recording tool. I also tested cycorder, but the file sizes were larger).

I may have the magic combination to make it just work. I have a 3G on a family shared plan, with unlimited messaging, but it's actually a work phone and I currently receive my Exchange email through it, and none of us have ever received the "go to this site to view the message" for an SMS (they just get silently dropped).

This seems to indicate that we have MMS enabled (breaking the "go to this site to view the message" functionality) as well as WAP Push (Exchange mail is pushed to the phone properly).

The biggest issues are that my phone isn't jailbroken yet, and 3G coverage here is virtually non-existant. I'm hoping to jailbreak soon, and will report back here once I've tried Swirly.

It works.

Works like a dream. I have a business account, I disabled iPhone messaging, enabled regular unlimited messaging.

Called AT&T and asked them to enable WAP Push. They did, but it still wasn't working after I hung up.

Called back, was transferred to Apple. The Apple support team and I had a good laugh as to why in the hell I was transferred to them and then transferred me back to AT&T tech.

AT&T tech confirmed WAP Push was enabled, I asked if she would re-send the OTA activation. She did and with two power-cycles Swirly worked. Brilliant.

SwirlyMats, wouldn't want to just send a lisc file this way in the spirit of xmas would you? ;P

Great App.

@markm75: Yeah, I got the hello world text to work just fine. It's sent as an MMS, not as an SMS.

I did some extensive testing with mine yesterday. I have a legit AT&T 3G phone with family plan service with the STANDARD iPhone DATA plan.
You must have WAP Push enabled on your account !!
>> I called and confirmed that WAP Push was enabled on my account already.

If you don't have it enabled on your account they will add it no problem. If they ask you why you need it just tell them that you're not getting your PUSH MAIL from an Exchange mail server at your office.

** They will try to get you to upgrade to the $45/month Data Plan for business Enterprise / DO NOT DO IT. You don't need it. If you have to argue with them they will eventually put you in touch with their iPhone tech people.

** They will also try and pawn you off to Apple directly to ' help ' you setup your mail. Again DO NOT DO IT, they can't help you , even if you were having real problems with Push Mail.

Here's my settings:

I'm in California, USA.

Using these settings:

MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com:80

APN: wap.cingular
Username: [email protected]
Password: cingular1

Image Size: Medium
UserAgent: Nokia_N95

I can SEND and RECEIVE 100% to AT&T no problem at all
I can SEND 100% of the time to Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon
I can RECEIVE 100% from Sprint ( Received all 20 sent to me )
I can RECEIVE 90% from T-Mobile ( Received 18 of 20 sent to me )
I can RECEIVE 10% from Verizon

Verizon seems to be the hard one to receive from. I only received 2 out of 20....

** Important note:
After I installed the app I had several immediate issues with dropped calls and data connectivity. I would have full 3G signal and no data access every few minutes in known good areas. The issues did seem to lighten up but I still have dropped calls where I didn't before. I believe it's the new app making constant data connections and the phone falling back to Edge for a moment in weaker data areas. If you're on a call with 3G and it flips to Edge , even for a second the iPhone will drop the call... so it's not so much the app but that something about it is always trying to make a data connection and when that happens and you're on the phone AND the phone flips to Edge during the call.... DROPPED CALL.
