AT$T sweeps their servers

Here goes the different settings for MMSC, Proxy and APN that have been proven usable.

AT$T sweeps their servers

Postby hunglong on 27 Sep 2008, 22:09

So I downloaded swirly and of course like most of you, spent countless hours on the phone with AT&T. I tried all the settings in these forums and nothing works. Keep getting the same Fetch Error: Unexpected http response....

The last person I talked to at AT&T knew what I was trying to accomplish and said "I am going to let you in on a little secret" Everybody who is downloading Swirly MMS is going to have a big surprise shortly. He told me that they (AT&T) will be sweeping there Iphone accounts and ALL multimedia messaging accounts will be deleted. He said so dont waste my money on buying the APP because It will not work here shortly.

He knew of the Swirly app and what it takes to get it to work.... Any thoughts. I am still using the demo version and will NOT buy this unless I get it working AND that AT&T wont be shutting these multi-media accounts off. Thoughts?????

I can believe it.. There has just been too many people calling AT&T services trying to get this to work. It still seems fishy, but I'm just waiting to see what happens within a couple weeks to see if they really go through with it. I know their Snooper program is already picking up a lot of the MMS additions for ppl with iPhones and canceling them. Some get away while others don't. Just wish there was an easier way to using SwirlyMMS other than all this crap that has to be done to get it to work.

Wow! This is amazing!
I'm glad we don't have any big brother stuff like that in Australia. *fingers crossed*

I'm pretty sure I was just affected by this. My MMS has been working great on my iPhone 3G on the AT&T familyplan. Just the other day when I tried to send/receive MMS, I got the infamous http error. This sucks. Swirly still works though, I popped in another SIM from the other phone on the familyplan and I could send and receive messages perfectly. I guess it's only for my number :(

This is somewhat accurate. I can confirm that ATT is auto correcting their systems for accounts provisioned with iPhones, PDAs and Blackberrys. They are using the imei number associated to the account. If you get a service rep to enable something like a non-iphone messaging plan, or WAP apn, the next day the system sets it back. This is why many report success with MMS after providing a non-iphone imei number for their account.

I can not confirm if AT&T can update the system after that, like are they snooping the line for the originating imei and updating each account. I'm also a little concerned about using iTune's Restore function. As part of the process, it contacts at&t and performs and activation AGAIN. This could also have the potential to update the imei and change the plans.

I wonder how often the auto-correct takes place. I'll see how long mine last. I wonder if the amount you send or receive has any affect?

Mine kept resetting overnite. It would work when I got off the phone with ATT. The next morning, nothing.

what I do is put my sim in my old Sony Ericsson for about an hour to get AT&T think I'm not using the iPhone anymore. When that happens I put the sim back into my iPhone and I can mms my heart away. But then after an hour it goes back to the http error. AT&T sucks.

this is quite disappointing indeed.

question. what if we all banded together and tried to figure out how to setup our own MMS server. good news is, there is an open-source MMS proxy called Mbuni which can be found at http://www.mbuni.org/ - ive downloaded, compiled it, configured it, and run some tests and have gotten it to partially work (works great when you specify the recipients full phone email address, doesnt work for number to number).. so im not sure if i just dont have some settings right, or if im missing a huge piece to the puzzle such as a GSM device to actually send messages, im not sure

but what does this all mean? theres A) a free MMS proxy that ive already tried to setup, and might be willing to release to the public for free which means B) free MMS and C) a solution for ATT customers and anyone else interested in free picture messaging (granted this is even remotely possible)

if they want to try so hard to prevent us from using a service that we should be able to use, by regular means or not, then fine... we will take our business elsewhere (even if that means they're not really losing business cause they already have us locked in for unlimited messaging [or whatever package] which only makes sense for family plans when you have 2+ people that actually send/receive text messages)

so yeah? anybody interested? again ive got a beefy dedicated web server at a datacenter, ive got a MMS server (semi-setup?), i just need something else.. you might know what i dont, so lets hook it up ;)
