Just to add to this topic.

I have had my iPhone 3G since August and have only just got around to sorting out MMS.

I entered the settings as detailed int he first post.

I know you need to phone O2 to get MMS activated, but i thought i would give it a try without doing that, just to see what happens.

IT WORKED. First time. Just sent one to my friend, and also sent one to myself. I receieved the MMS in Swirly with no problems!?

Is this strange?

Just got Swirly running on UK O2 contract account:
What I did was initially made the mistake of telling the truth with regards to what I want to do, i.e. send MMS on an iPhone. Result: "Sorry sir the tarriff nor the phone supports MMS."

Phoned back 30 mins later and this time my story was I need to take a phone abroad that has MMS.
As my iPhone is uninsured I want to put my iPhone SIM in my old XDA phone.
Thus I need the MMS bar lifting on the account.
"Not a problem, will be in effect in 2 to 24hrs."
Peachy. Make up your own moral to the story.

So now the settings I use for MMS on O2 in the UK:
MMSC: http://mmsc.o2.co.uk:8002
Proxy: 193.113.200.195:8080
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
Username: o2wap
Password: password
Image Size: I use medium but I suppose any one will do. It's your phone bill...
UserAgent: iPhone

Save the settings and give it a couple of mins for the "m" next to the battery to go green.
I've heard stories about the port number dropping off the end of the IP addresses so just check.

All that remains is to have your girlfriend send you a 'test' pic....

Lovely!

Right.... let's get this sorted for you...

What error message are you getting when trying to send a MMS through Swirly on your iPhone?

The facts are I have an iPhone, on an iPhone contract, on O2, in the UK and I can now send and receive MMS through Swirly!

It'll be something simple (probably the operator at O2)... it always is

Let me know

Hi, I have just installed SwirlyMMS and used the O2 settings and I am able to send MMS messages fine without ringing O2. I get a green M so presumably all is well.

The problem lies in receiving them. I sent myself a few tests and I got the usual "please go to www.o2.co.uk/m to see a multimedia message you have been sent". When I go there the message has been sent to my inbox fine. Is this a common problem or do I need the MMS bar lifting before I receive them to SwirlyMMS?

Also, just to clarify the billing issue. I have the unlimited texts bundle which means my 500 inclusive texts never actually decrease. Hopefully MMS messages come out of that allowance?

Thanks. The app looks great. I will be buying it as soon as I can sort out the incoming messages. $8 is peanuts for this functionality!

Update: I cannot get the 'green m' at all! I successfully received a mms yesterday but today I cannot get the 'green m'.

I have however received a 'new mms icon' on my swirly app icon but it says I haven't got the 'green m' and therefore cannot proceed?

Strange? I'll keep you posted

I emailed o2 today here https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help
and 2 hours later i got an email saying my MMS is up and running..
all i put was " Hi o2, can you please turn on my MMS service on my contract please, i do understand that my iphone can not send MMS, but i would like it turn on, Thanks o2 "
try it and see.. Good luck.

It must have been a network issue as the 'green m' is back.... Happy days!

I was just scared that o2 were onto us and changed my account settings....

Merry Xmas
