Swirly on O2 (UK) - how to fix "send but not receive"

Postby rockjam on 24 Nov 2008, 17:12

Hi

For all UK users running/evaluating Swirly you will find that once you have requested settings (this bit is no problem) that you can only send but not receive MMS.

Thread here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread. ... ost6654091

Just to reaffirm what has been said above. You can get the MMS settings into Swirly from the app itself but the problem is that the account is not provisioned for MMS exactly as people have stated.

I phoned up 02 - told them I use my N82 at the weekends and wanted to use MMS and understood that this would mean my iPhone would not receive notifications.

They had to migrate me to what they called a newer version of my contract (same price, same terms) but the new contract could be provisioned for MMS. Perhaps this in itself is a sign that native MMS is coming.

As it is a Sunday I was told it may take 48 hours but would normally take 24 hours.

It therefore looks like the above information was totally correct - thanks.

EDIT: I had to be passed through to the iPhone team. It was a member of the iPhone team who set this up so it might be worth making that request at the start.

UPDATE: IT WORKS!!! MMS send and receive!! w00t!!

Cool, ok. Basically once I did the jailbreak I headed straight for SwirlyMMS as how can a modern phone not have MMS right? Once I followed the instructions to get the settings (very straightforward) I then encountered the error that all users in the UK on o2 (main iphone network provider) do which is that the send works without issue but you still receive the SMS notification of an MMS being sent to you.

I couldn't find the answer here but did track it down eventually somewhere else. Figured having it on here would be useful. Probably an idea to add it to the FAQ as well as I did look there as well.

Cheers..James

You should ask to be put through to the iPhone team. Once I was through to them it was a 30 second conversation.

What I was told: "some older contracts can't be provisioned for MMS so I will have to put you onto the new style contract and then it might take 48 hours"

this is because it was a Sunday but it was working by Monday afternoon. If this is true it might be why some people seem to succeed just by sending the PICON message but that didn't work for me hence the reason I called them.

Can somebody please confirm the following for me: on o2 with the correct settings from them and SwirlyMMS installed should I be able to get full MMS messages and not an o2 MMS web link?

Have you actually read the post? The answer is yes. The post above and the link above contains the instructions and the conversations around the topic.

I have a UK o2 iPhone on the £35 contract and I have SwirlyMMS working send and receive straight to the inbox and no SMS notification. It does not work by default because MMS is not enabled by o2 on iPhone tariffs.

when you get through - I told them

"Ive been speaking to my friend and you upgraded his iphone account to Use MMS as he uses his sim in two phones (2nd phone for just sending mms message at weeking when we go out) and i would like to do the same
he said ok could take upto 48 hours - (i said fine)
