I have seen speculation all over the web and now I am starting to believe that ATT does indeed BLOCK mms from getting out from iPhone as soon as it's detected. I had this working yesterday. I sent 5 or so messages testing. Then it stopped working. I put the SIM into my ATT Tilt, it still did not work. I called ATT back (I have to go through their business area). He did something to my account to make it work again from my Tilt. I put the SIM back into the iPhone and later.... again it stopped working.
This morning it still does not work. I have gotten 2-3 very similar but different error messages "Failed to send MMS. Could not connect to proxy. The MMS is place in the outbox." a 403 error, and a permission denied error.
I really wish I could talk to the corporate folks and find out why on earth they even care if we can send MMS messages from the iPhone. It makes not one bit of sense to me. I only wish that I knew about the block for sure before I paid the $8 for the software.
BTW, when i called ATT and spoke to 2 different reps and tech support they tried to add the Medianet Per Use to my account and no matter what they did it would not let them do it as long as the iPhone plan was on there. It's amazing to me that people are having such different experiences getting this to work. I ended up just having them completely remove the iPhone from my account and put it back on my Tilt. The rep could not believe that i had gotten a coworkers Blackberry SIM to work in my iphone. She didn't think the data would work at all, but it did. So, she had no problem changing me over to the Tilt plan after I told her that I would be flipping my SIM back and forth when i needed to.
So anyway, it seems like this does work, the settings are right, BUT if ATT detects that an iPhone is sending an MMS it then blocks further traffic from that sim. Grrrrrr.
